Choir Levels

Central Illinois Youth Chorus offers four choirs to meet the needs and interests of its choristers.

Music Makers is a choir for younger singers in grades K-3 designed to nurture a love for singing while developing the child’s musical skills. During rehearsals, we aim to foster a love of singing while teaching healthy vocal production, solfege with musical games, and harmonizing using partner songs.  Music Makers meets Mondays 5:45-6:45pm.

Concert Choir is the intermediate-level choir for ages 8-12. This group works on the same fundamentals as Music Makers, working on tone quality and breath support for the developing voice, while adding score reading and more part singing.  Concert Choir meets Thursdays 6-7:30.

Chamber Choir is the advanced treble choir for grades 6-12. At this level, all singers have some sight-reading skills, strong ears, and good vocal production. The group furthers these skills and works on diverse and challenging repertoire that they perform with local choirs and orchestras, as well as in their own concerts. The group meets Mondays 6-7:30 and some Thursdays 6:30-7:30.

Youth Chorale is an ensemble of mixed voices (SATB) for advanced singers. The group is composed of select high school Chamber Choir members, and youth who have changed tenor and bass voices.  The group meets Sundays 5:15-6:15.
